The adage "Idle Mind a Devils Work shop" cannot be further than the Truth
Post Stroke Life in the new Millenium was awful. Five times a Day with every movement of my head Triggered a TIA. meaning Transient Ischemic Attack. Being an Engineer prior to my Brain stem stroke I was aware of the Carotid artery and the Jugular Vein in the neck. Never heard of a Vertebral Arteries - the left and right, that passed through rings on either side of each and every Vertebrae in the Cervical spine meaning Neck.
In my case the Right vertebral artery had either dissected totally or occluded from a Blood Clot. All f a sudden I had no vertebral artery and that means all the brain stem cells supplied by the PICA Artery which was fed by the right Vertebral artery died a quick death causing a lateral medallary Infarct with Wallenberg Syndrome & Horners syndrome. What was even more disconcerting was I realised many doctors in the hospital were interested in my case and every two hours or so a team of five doctors wanted to see me.
It was six months later another Neurolologist and Head of Stroke Unit at Prince of Wales Hospital told me "Mr Krishnaswamy, in my sixteen years as stroke specialist I have never seen a case like yours except in Autopsies. This is what we doctors call a TEXT BOOK Case as we seldom see patients who survive such a brain stem stroke. So Please count your blessings and stay happy knowing you have made an amazing & unbelievable recovery.
I did survive but don't ask me how or why as I keep asking the same question myself. Perhaps I have unfinished work in this world. Who Knows? God Only Knows.
