I received an SMS from my Son to say his Blood test results were back and his BP, Blood Sugars and Cholesterol levels were all good and his doctor was pleased. I was extremely pleased too.
Down the memory lane, at age 36 in 1983 I was fit as a fiddle but for my damaged back and in 1999 at age 52 I raced my brother in law, son and four nephews and won the race; I had forgotten about this but Mithu remembered the race we had at Paddys Markets, Sydney for fun. The following year 2000 I received my Millenium Gift. Someone up there decided to pull the carpet from under my feet and I crashed, as you all know.
I have had so many teachers in my life but none better than my Amma. She has shared so many golden word of wisdom as I was growing up and they are all etched in my mind for keeps. I can't say my son listens to even remembers what I have to say. Perhaps he does without saying so.
Current generation find all their answers for everything from Google searches. Nothing wrong except there is information overflow and a lot of disinformation too and sadly these snippets of wisdom and knowledge from Google do not get etched in the mind.
1 - "Everything in Moderation"
Amma's voice still rings in my ears and "Everything in Moderation" was her chant. My interpretation today is "Good Bad or Ugly Habits" - do everything in Moderation. From 1980 believe it or not, I have been drinking one Scotch on the Rocks at night. One was the Limit as I was the only driver in the family for a long time and did not want to DUI - Drive Under Influence. With all my zillion health issues since 2000, I was worried my doctors will ban alcohol. Quite the Contrary. My favourite haematologist Prof Dr Harry Illand of RPAH said "Keep going. This is probable why your Cholesterol is 2.2". Not many have succeeded in forcing a second drink on me. I am very rigid that way.' As for Health Amma also kept mentioning "You are what you Eat" The Tamil Proverb is "Alavukku Minjinaal Amirthamum Nanju" meaning even "Nectar the Drink of the God's when consumed in excess can be Poisonous"
2 - "Key to Happiness is Never to ask Why Me?" Shit happens (pardon the very common Aussie expression) Accept whatever life throws at you, again the Good the Bad and the Ugly and continue your journey regardless. Be content with what you have. Sadly most people are over the moon when life is good but crash when the smallest things go wrong like even a flat tyre.
3 - "Mind Over Body & Soul" In Order to do everything in Moderation as well as not Torture yourself with the "Why Me Question" one has to be Pig Headed and strong willed and exercise "Mind over Body". Follow and be guided by your own inner voice which will never lie to you. If you won't listen to your own "common sense" you will never listen to family and friends and even doctors who tell you what to do and what not to do. I take advice from people Provided my mind says it is good advice. My one rule is not to accept everything every doctor says because they have a medical degree. Trust me they are like all Professionals, like the motor mechanics, the Good the Bad and the Ugly who are there only to make money of you. I study and analyse all health issues threadbare using Google and I can spot a Good doctor miles away. The Minute I find them I hang on to each one of them. The minute they falter I give them the flick.

Now Time to list all the responses I received in no particular order
1). Acceptance Gratitude and Curiosity
2) ЁЯджЁЯП╜♂️ I don't believe I can.
3) Being content and not hankering for material wealth, growing your own food (if possible) and eating local, helping others..
4) Eat only what you think is digestable, when seeing a doc go with clear mind (do not accept anything they say) and too much greed is one's poison?
5) "Don’t Worry"; "Be Happy!" "You’re not in control". (The world will continue to exist without your opinion or influence).
6) 1. Work your body, rest your mind.
2. Be as close to nature & live as naturally as you possibly can.
3. Follow minimalism.
7) "Nutritious Food" , "Adequate Exercise" and "Clear Conscience".
8) "For Happiness we must know to perform our duty without expectation & fascination". "Everyone is responsible for status of his/her own health, for that only thing is investing time on daily basis strictly. At least one hour of work out comprising of yoga, meditation & physical endurance training "
9) Happiness is when "What you think, What you Say and What you do are in Harmony"
( Mmmm my Response "Perfect. I do all these bad things. What I think say and do, nine out of ten times lands me in trouble for being BLUNT. Love your response.)
10) "Make Others Happy" ( Three words) and you will be Blessed with Good Health and Happiness.
11) "Knowing that I’m not Invincible & I have all the frailties of the human Body and Mind"
12) " Regular Exercise & Taking One's Responsibities Seriously"
13) "A curiosity for life and seeking ways to improve oneself and at the same time doing service for the community"
14) "Wish we knew the answers then we don't have to be chasing them constantly!" "So when did you find the three key ingredients? "Did you know them when you needed them the most?" ( Mmmm)
15) "Read the Bible. Pray. Help others in need". The above is key to one's spiritual health and happiness. In my view, of course.
16) 1. Positive attitude, emotions and thoughts
2. Be moderate in lifestyle - diet and exercise
3. Disciplined habits
17) Eating healthy food,
Getting the right amount of exercise,
Maintaining good relationships with family and friends
18) Contentment for Happiness
Active Life and Good Sleep for Good Health
19) My top three ingredients:
1) Music
2) Dogs
3) Exercise
I woke up early remembering one of my Favourite Tamil Songs that is apt for this article.
Even today I remember the incident that etched this song in my mind. I was riding my push bike home from IITM on a Sunday Morning. Just passed the Oceanic Hotel at Foreshore Estate on Santhome High Road. There was this huge crowd on the road Blocking the Traffic. I assumed it must be a bad traffic accident. When I got closer I could hear this song being played loud . Got closer and there was this young man sitting on the bar of his push bike facing backwards steering the handle and doing circles on the road belting out this song. An awesome feat it was and his song choice was even more awesome. It was so full of Wisdom.
Tamil Title "Aaru Maname Aaru Indha Aandavan Kattalai Aaru"
( meaning Six Commandments of The Lord ) not the Ten Commandments..of Christianity.
(This song is about Spirituality and nothing to do with Religious beliefs meaning it applies to all Religions)
( Don't worry if you don't understand Tamil - Full translation follows after the song.)

in the heart which realises the above six principles,
is the white heart (pure) where the Lord Lives..
In Life for every action of ours, depending on how it is perceived as by others, we can get an applause or receive brickbats. Acknowledge the applause as it makes you feel happy about your actions but most importantly listen carefully to your critics who will help you identify your mistakes so you don't falter again making you stronger. I love my Critics. Fear of failure and Criticism definitely helps you perform better in whatever you do.
It is Fathers Day in Sydney and Babu made the best Chese and Tomatao Toastie and Mithu is slaving in the Kitchen cooking Prawn Biriyani and I have received a Bunnings Gift Card too so I can get some plants .
Have a Happy Fathers Day to all fathers.
Thanks to friends who took the time to respond
