283 - THE MOST POWERFUL FAMILY IN TAMIL NADU - QUORA

The YGP family.

(I have a lot of data on this family, and for a few days, may keep answering questions on this topic. Bear with me.)

It may go on like a banyan tree. This is going to be a head spinning journey.

Start with Mrs.Rajalakshmi Parthasarathi. She is founder (claimed to be usurper) of PSBB school. Used to work at both The Hindu and Kumudham magazine before the school business.

(1925–2019)

Her grandfather is T. Rangachari, INC member and important member in history of Indian Censor Board. Head of Rangachari Committee.

(The fat one in the middle. 1865–1945).

Her brother is K Balaji, actor and producer

(Balaji with Nadigar Thilagam Shivaji Ganesan. )

(1934–2009).

Surprisingly, Jayalalithaa came to his funeral, when she was already two time CM and then opposition leader. She too is in the story, albeit a little late.

Actor-producer K Balaji passes away
Noted actor-producer K Balaji (74) passed away at Apollo hospital in Chennai on Saturday evening around 4.30 pm.In picture: AIADMK supremo J Jayalalitha at K Balajis residenceText and images: Moviebuzz

Balaji's son Suresh Balaji is also a famous producer.

(On right. Birthyear unknown. Still living.)

Balaji's daughter, and Suresh Balaji's sister is Suchitra.

(DOB unknown. Age probably around 50–60)

Suchitra wed none other than our own Lalettan.

(Last I heard, his son Pranav was acting in a few movies. He was also assistant director in Papanasam movie, a remake of Mohanlal's Drishyam.)

One branch over.

Coming to this lady again:

Her husband is Mr. Parthasarathi. (Ironically, her father's name is also Parthasarathi. No initial change lol). (The kid is none other than Jayalalithaa).

(Playwright. Have heard that he had artistic war with Kalaignar Karunanidhi, another playwright.

1916–1980).

The son born to this couple is Mr. Y. G Mahendran. Another son is YG Rajendran, photo/info unavailable.

He is a “legendary” comedian. (Writing this sentence has made me laugh more than his entire career).

(1950-now).

His wife is Mrs Sudha.

(DOB not known. Still living).

This couple have two kids.

Y. G Madhuvanthi and Y.G Harshvardhan.

Madhuvanthi (extreme left, 1977-now) and Harshvardhan (extreme right. Age unknown. Married in 2018).

Mrs Sudha's sister is Mrs Latha.

Who is married to Superstar Rajinikanth.

This branch ends here.

Coming back to Mr. Y. G Parthasarathi:

Not many know this, but his sister is actress Vasundhara Devi.

(1917–1988).

Who is mother of Bollywood's first female superstar Vyjayanthimala.

(Actress, 1936-now). Her writings will prove useful later.

End of branch.

Coming back to Mrs.Latha Rajinikanth:

She and Rajinikanth have two daughters, Aishwarya and Soundarya.

Left Mrs. Aishwarya (1982-now) and right Mrs.Soundarya ( 1984-now).

(Both directors, and involved in cinema. Soundarya's branch ends here).

Mrs.Aishwarya's husband is actor Dhanush , four time national award winner.

(1983-now)

Actor Dhanush's brother is director Selvaraghavan (branded as weirdo by some and cult director by others):

(1977-now)

Mr.Selvaraghavan is married to Mrs.Geethanjali.

Mrs.Geethanjali's father is Mr. PS Raman, who practices in Supreme Court and Madras High court.

(1960-now).

Also, he,his father were close to the late Karunanidhi. (Imagine, one part of the family hating him, and another being close to him).

Mr. PS Raman's father is Mr.VP Raman, a DMK politician and a former advocate general of Tamil Nadu.

( 1932–1991).

VP Raman speaking. On the back are MGR (former CM), Mathiazhagan (DMK co founder), CN Annadurai (former CM), C Rajagopalachari (former Madras state CM) and Karunanidhi (former CM).

He also has another son, Mr.Mohan Raman.

(Actor. 1956-now)

Mr.Mohan Raman has a daughter, who is also an actor.

(Vikram Raman (DOB unknown) and actor Vidylekkha Raman (1991-now)).

End of branch.

Coming back once again to the sisters Latha and Sudha:

They also have a brother.Mr. Ravi Raghavendra.

Actor (1962-now).

His children are music director Anirudh and PSBB cringe ad actress and lawyer Vaishnavi.

Anirudh (1990-now) and Vaishnavi (DOB unknown)

The advertisement, for fun:

Coming back to the family tree:

Anirudh's mother's sister's son(cousin) is Hrishikesh, another actor:

(DOB unknown- now)

This guy's father is Mr. SV Ramanan, ad film maker, and back in the day interviewed Rajinikanth for DoorDarshan.

(DOB unknown-now).

This guy's father is Mr. Krishnaswamy Subramanyam, one of the important person in beginning of Tamil cinema.

(1904–1971)

He had a lot of children. I mean a lot. One of his daughter is Mrs.Bhama.(photo not available).

One of her children is Raghuram master.

Choreographer in Tamil cinema. (1949–2013).

Raghuram's wife Mrs.Girija, her sisters Mrs. Kala,Mrs. Brindha are also choreographers.

Girija master (DOB unknown-now).

Kala and Brinda masters. (DOB unknown-now).

End of branch.

Going back to the couple of Girija-Raghuram masters:

Their daughter is none other than Ms. Gayathri Raghuram.

(Understand why Gayathri gets angry when police arrested YGP family owned PSBB? They are relatives).

About Jayalalithaa: My source said that Mrs. Vyjayanthimala had written in a book somewhere that her family was from Mysore. She also has written that for her family's arrival, even Mysore royals will stand up.

Jayalalithaa's family is also from Melukote, about 50 kms away from Mysore. I wouldn't be surprised if she is distant relative to Vyjayanthimala, and thereby being relative to the whole family tree.

Jayalalithaa & Vyjayanthimala : Right Royal Mysore connections
A vintage photograph showing Sandhya (middle row – third from left) at an event in Vanita Sadana, a women’s development institution in Mysore, contemporaneous with Mahila Samaja and Mahila Sadana. Sir, Readers of your curiosity-provoking news report on J. Jayalalithaa’s Mysore roots (SOM dated July 9) may find it interesting to know that her mother Sandhya was a socialite in Mysore, with links to the ruling elite. After leaving Mysore and living for a while in Bangalore, Sandhya settled in Madras and started acting in Tamil films at the instance of her actor-sister Ambujavalli (Vidyavathi). Sandhya’s pre-screen name was Vedavalli (Vedavathi) and it is said that even Jayalalithaa’s original name was different: it was “Komalavalli.” It is also said that the prefix “Jaya” in the names of her family signifies their association with the Palace. Jayalalithaa’s grandfather Dr. N. Rangachar, L.M. & S., was a Palace doctor in Mysore and his name is exclusively inscribed on a donation plaque in Mahila Samaja, close to Jayalalithaa’s ancestral residence on 2nd Main Road, Lakshmipuram (the building now houses the Lakshmipuram Sports Club). Dr. Rangachar’s image is also seen in an enchanting mural depicting a group of Durbaris at the Mysore Palace. This context rekindles memories of the similar, interesting roots of Vyjayanthimala in Mysore. Her mother Vasundhara Devi, a glamorous dancer and Tamil film actress, too, enjoyed direct contacts with the Mysore Royalty. Vasundhara Devi counted the Yuvaraja of Mysore, Kanteerava Narasimharaja Wadiyar, among her admirers, and she and her family were part of the Yuvaraja’s contingent that toured Europe in 1939. Vyjayanthimala’s paternal grandfather Dhati Gopalacharya and step-grandmother M.D. Ranganayakamma founded Mahila Sadana on N.S. Road (near Maharani’s High School) in Mysore. —S.G. Seetharam on e-mail / Gita Road, Mysore / 17.7.2014 source: http://www.starofmysore.com / Star of Mysore / Home> Voice of the Reader / July 27th, 2014

I would take Karunanidhi's dynasty or the Mannargudi mafia anyday than this Brahmin dynasty! (Not on basis of power etc but on complexity between relatives. Both other parties have maintained their powers by catching power alternately).

Upon investigating about the Yechan Gunjan title, it seems, it used also by Kannada smartha Brahmins. Total confusion.

States covered in this family tree:

Tamil Nadu.

Kerala. (Mohanlal connection).

Karnataka.(Smartha and Vyjayanthimala connection).

Andhra Pradesh ( Yechan Gunja name and Dhanush connection).

Maharashtra (Rajinikanth connection).

Coming to the second part of the question,

Anybody who can resist arrest from Jayalalithaa, when JayendraSaraswati couldn't, comes under powerful in my list.

(The arrest was a shock to this lobby, but that's a story for another day).

I am talking about none other than Mrs YGP.

In 2012, a boy drowned in a pool made for 15 children, but where children of 3 classes were dumped together. The PT masters had gone to drink tea.

The boy was born very late to his father. He was in class 4.

Instead of arresting the Dean, they went for the correspondent.

The correspondent was Mrs. Sheela Rajendran.

(She became Dean after Mrs Rajalakshmi's death).

Did she go to jail? Hell no!

Arrested at school--> At court in afternoon--> Bail at evening.

That's it. Jayalalithaa most probably did this probably because they were relatives.

Also, anybody who can call Subramaniam Swamy (who has weird history with Jayalalithaa) to defend them, when the fault clearly lies on them is powerful.

Who knows, he himself may be related to this lobby one way or the other!

Note that these are the members of the lobby whose information is available on the internet or easily verifiable.

We might never know the complete family.

Edit 1:

Jayanthi master's (sister of Kala, Brindha, Girija masters) daughter is :

Keerthi.

(TV , award show anchor).

(1987-now).

She is married to Shanthanu Bhagyaraj

Shanthanu, left (actor, 1986-now). Bhagyaraj (director, actor, screenplay writer,1953-now). Poornima (actor,1960-now) and Keerthi.

It must be hard for you to process this info. Here you go.

Objection Your Honour. Though I am as disgusted with the latest PSBB shameful episode, repulsed by the mindless blabbering of Madhuvanthi and the overall entitled and supremacist utterances of many brahmin groups, I don’t see any relevance for the facts mentioned in this post. Objection overruled sir.

The first question asked for the largest family tree in Tamil Nadu, and I have answered it.

The comparison with Karunanidhi family, or with Mannargudi Mafia is strictly based on complexity between relatives, rather than power, bloodshed, goondaism etc. Will edit it.

The whole po

Nagarajan SrinivasYes. Proceed. Objection (im)partially withdrawn, having regard to extenuating circumstances explained by my fellow advocate 😁 Regarding the family’s Jayalalithaa connection, please read my another comment to this answer! I think some people may recognise the girl child in dance costume in the Y.G.Parthasarathi’s picture in this answer itself 🤗

Jayalalithaa has a close connection with the YGP family from her pre-cinema days, because her mother Sandhya and aunt Vidya were regular members in the United Amateur Artists(UAA) run by Y.G.Parthasarathi. She herself acted in some of their plays, and was a close family friend. Madhuvanthi was (I th

That’s why Sandhya got into films.

Your answer should be longer. Madhuvanti’s husband to Savitri, Gemini Ganesan and then the link goes to Kamala Selvaraj, Jaya Sreedhar (of Ninaivellam Nithya fame), Rekha, Hindi actor Vinod Mehra who was rumoured to have married Rekha and so on. This is like the Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon game but t

Very well written. I had done this research sometime back and got confused big time. It requires a lot of time to understand this complicated family tree.

Good job.
