390 - OLD FARTS CLUB,

MESSAGE NO 1 DATED 5TH OCT 2021

Good Day. If you are receiving this message I have assumed you are nearly 60 years old or older. Considering I will b e turning 75 in a couple of months, I realise about 25% of my WhatsApp friends are Senior Citizens. If You are a Spring Chuk and much Younger I am sorry I added you to this list. Please let me know ASAP. If you don't  remember how Old you are or what you ate for Breakfast It is Ok as that means you are over 75. Many  years ago on a weekend I was at Circular Quay waiting for a ferry to Manly. there were about 20 American Tourists and All Old Men and all of them wore a Green Baseball caps Cap with "O F C" embroidered on the caps. Out of Curiosity I asked one gentleman what OFC was and I almost fell of the ferry into the sea laughing. Let us see if you can Guess What OFC stands For ? 🀠🀠🀠🀠

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Many guesses so far. I decided I will let you all know the Minute some one makes a Correct guess and we have a winner..          "OFC is OLD FARTS CLUB". The Prize goes to a Lady Too as the men are Truly old Farts who cannot think 🀣🀣🀣🀣

How do you cope with Old Age ?

Are you winning or Losing ?

Interesting Responses: -                                                                                               1 - There's no such thing as wining or losing. It is the fact of life in all walks of life have to journey until the end of the rainbow and thats the bus stop (destination) we've to set down passing onto the next breed generation to journey onπŸ˜ŠπŸ™

2 - Losing means living for ever????          3 - Trying to stay afloat but hard sometimes.

4 - So far so good... I play Golf 3 times a week and Walk the 6.5 km course... Unlike youngsters, who take Buggies Plus, a one hour session of Yoga ( including Pranayama) 5 times a week..so,  I'm winning (I think) ... So far !! But You, having lasted so long,  despite life threatening issues (and looking after your Garden) ..a truly remarkable☺️                    5 - On the knife edge hahaha 😝 Balancing ok so far

Memory Loss:

Let me give you an example of my short term memory loss from yesterday. When I go down to the podium ( or basement, if it's raining ) I wear track pants. No hip pocket. Sometimes my wife asks me to step out of our gated complex to buy some urgently required veggies - generally coriander leaves, curry leaves and light green chillies. Normally I don't carry money or wallet when going down for a walk but when wife gives me the shopping list, I carry a light shoulder strap bag not just for the veggies but also to keep my wallet and some coins plus extra pair of masks, umbrella etc. Yesterday I was walking down the podium ramp to the security gate, when I touched my pockets and found I was not carrying any money. So I called my wife, told her to keep some assorted currency notes ready, took the elevator, collected the money, shoved it in my T-shirt pocket and went shopping just outside our society gate. I paid the vendor and held open my bag seeking his help in putting the papaya, veggies etc in the bag. And what do you think I saw in my bag? My wallet!! I am a very particular guy who plans such outdoor trips in advance and had kept my wallet in the bag but did not remember it. Aisa bhi hota hai!!

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Thanks to the Zoom Exercise Classes, I've been successful in postponing my 2nd hip replacement for over a year - so that must count as a win, would you agree??!! 😊 - everything else is going to the dogs, but let's not be too picky 🀣🀣

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Well , Ram , am fine , alive and kicking , but age is catching up with this poor old soul fast...general health is ok but dementia is close by as i feel it with my memory lapses...not to worry , i guess , as its the price of living upto a ripe old age...πŸ₯΅...

Stay safe and healthy , Ram...God bless...

SENIORS ALERT NO 1

Virologists have identified a new Nile virus - type C.
We are still battling COVID-19, but the next thing is here already.
Virologists have identified a new Nile virus - type C.
It appears to target those who were born between 1930 and 1970.

Symptoms:
1. Sending the same email twice.
2. Sending a blank email.
3. Sending a message to the wrong person.
4. Sending it back to the person who sent it to you.
5. Forgetting to attach the attachment.
6. Hitting SEND before you've finished.
7. Hitting DELETE instead of SEND.
8. Hitting SEND when you should hit DELETE.

That is why it is called the C-NILE virus.

If you cannot admit to doing the above, you have obviously caught the mutated strain — the D-NILE virus.
There is no vaccine for this disease.

[20:28, 10/6/2021] Ram: Not received any Responses. Presume no one has got the C-Nile Virus as Yet. This is Great News

[20:37, 10/6/2021] Ram: As My Buddy Says you Forgot to Reply which is caused by C Nile Virus or you are suffering from  De-Nial of the C-Nile Virus

[20:49, 10/6/2021] Ram: Jokes aside Not one respondent has claimed not to have some health issue or the other. Majority claim memory loss short and long term as well as Blood sugar problems and a host of health issue each unique to the individual My Fav Dada Dr Sengupta a Retd Orthopaedic surgeon says "Hey Ram is there anything else that can go wrong with your body ??. and my Ex GP used to tell his secretaries on seeing me "Here Comes Trouble" 🀣🀣🀣. He has told me I was his Most Complex and complicated Patient with the weirdest of twists to normal diseases. I may be the Unlucky Jonah but I don't let that get to me. One Day I might share my secret to SURVIVAL against all ODDS

[21:05, 10/6/2021] Ram: Have to share this response from a Good Friend of mine, Also a Senior living in Mumbai : "Let me give you an example of my short term memory loss from yesterday. *What is A.A.A.D.D.* ?

It is Age Activated Attention Deficit Disorder.

This is how it manifests:

I decide to water my garden. As I turn on the hose in the driveway, I look over at my car and decide it needs washing.

As I start toward the garage, I notice mail on the porch table that I brought up from the mail box earlier.

I decide to go through the mail before I wash the car.

I lay my car keys on the table, put the junk mail in the garbage can under the table, and notice that the can is full.

So, I decide to put the bills back on the table and take out the garbage first.
But then I think, since I'm going to be near the mailbox when I take out the garbage anyway, I may as well pay the bills first.

I take my cheque book off the table,
and see that there is only one cheque left.

My extra cheques are in my desk in the study, so I go inside the house to my desk where I find the can of Coke I'd been drinking.

I'm going to look for my cheques, but first I need to push the Coke aside
so that I don't accidentally knock it over.

The Coke is getting warm, and I decide to put it in the refrigerator to keep it cold.

As I head toward the kitchen with the Coke, a vase of flowers on the counter
catches my eye--they need water.

I put the Coke on the counter and
discover my reading glasses that
I've been searching for all morning.

I decide I better put them back on my desk, but first I'm going to water the flowers.

I set the glasses back down on the counter, fill a container with water and suddenly spot the TV remote.
Someone left it on the kitchen table.

I realize that tonight when we go to watch TV, I'll be looking for the remote,
but I won't remember that it's on the kitchen table, so I decide to put it back in the den where it belongs, but first I'll water the flowers.

I pour some water in the flowers, but quite a bit of it spills on the floor.

So, I set the remote back on the table,
get some towels and wipe up the spill.

Then, I head down the hall trying to
remember what I was planning to do.

At the end of the day:

the car isn't washed

the bills aren't paid

there is a warm can of Coke sitting on the counter

the flowers don't have enough water,

there is still only 1 cheque in my cheque book,

I can't find the remote,

I can't find my glasses,

and I don't remember what I did with the car keys.

Then, when I try to figure out why nothing got done today, I'm really baffled because I know I was busy all day, and I'm really tired.

I realize this is a serious problem, and I'll try to get some help for it, but first I'll check my e-mail....

Do me a favor.
Forward this message to everyone you know, because I don't remember whether I've sent it to you before....

Don't laugh -- if this isn't you yet, *your* days are *coming*!!

The 80 / 20 Rule appears to work with Seniors too but  A BIT DIFFERENTLY.

Sent the message to 100 Seniors, 20% Read it and 20% of the 20% who read it Remembered to Respond.

So Yippee I have a handful of responses as follows.
1 - Ram, it is not strange for me, as such  things happen to me also but with lesser number of diversions and I do forget the first search item, which will come to mind later. Anyway, I decided to fwd your msg as friends of my age group who will enjoy and console themselves they are not the only guys with such 'great remembrances 'πŸ˜ƒπŸ˜ƒπŸ˜ƒ.
2 - Thanks to the Zoom Exercise Classes, I've been successful in postponing my 2nd hip replacement for over a year - so that must count as a win, would you agree??!! 😊 - everything else is going to the dogs, but let's not be too picky 🀣🀣.
3 - I am an  easy peasy goer one who does crosswords / sudoku / brain teasers to keep grey cells active! πŸ˜œπŸ‘ŠπŸ™
4- Very true. I am going through similar drama now and then.                                                                                                      5 - True. You start with a job then start with another forgetting the earlier one . The best is to go back to the first one finish & then start with the second one. It works. Similarly overcome forgetting spects etc by visiting the last place you visited - you will find your spects squarely ! It works for me I am 77 years young
6 - And my story of short term memory loss - the other day went for an hour long walk because the weather was lovely (that's quite rare at this time of the year in Melbourne 😊😊) - got home absolutely busting for a piss - and that was when I realised that I had forgotten to zip up after the last one, which was just before heading out for the walk!!!  And not one of the very polite people I met during the walk said anything to let me know that "Houston, we have a problem" πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚.
7 - The list of things noticed to be done is woefully incomplete. I intend to send you the rest of the items, as soon as I've put them in order, and I'll go fetch my glasses now to get it done. (Not heard from this guy since. He has forgotten why he needed his reading glasses I think.Never Mind)                                                                                                                                8 - Wow this is  one "IS THE REAL JOKE ABOUT C-NILE VIRUS".
9 - Yes it happens to all of us.  I usually keep my dentures in a bowl of water when not in use. One day it was not there. Searched high and low and just as I was about to give up, found it on the floor beside my bedside table. Must have taken it off and forgot all about it!

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Now Believe it or not I received this message about a week ago and I decided I should share it with all Senior Citizens I then struck a problem. I could not remember who sent it to me. This is not due to loss of memory aka dementia but information overload. I virtually scanned through messages from 497 Whatsapp friends ( this does not include youngsters below 30). Damn I just could not remember. Then I decided to ask a few seniors and One said I did send it but not on Whatsapp but by email Ram.

Thank God I now use only WhatsApp and Gmail and got rid of Face Book, Twitter, Instagram, Linked in, Yahoo Groups, Google Groups way back in 2017 when my Computer got hacked and the hacker started to Black mail me (another story some of you might even remember if your Neurons are still firing.

Now this is
Age Activated Attention Deficit Disorder.
or A.A.A.D.D.

This is how it manifests ITSELF

SENIORS ALERT NO-3

Nine Points for Seniors to Ponder

..and as someone recently said to me:
Don't worry about old age; it doesn't last that long!!!

Number 1 - Death is the number 1 killer in the world.

Number 2 - Life is sexually transmitted.

Number 3 - Good health is merely the slowest possible rate at which one can die.

Number 4 - Men have two emotions: hunger and thirst, and they can't tell them apart. If you see a gleam in his eyes make him a sandwich or pour him a Good Scotch Whiskey

Number 5
- Give an old person fish and you feed him for a day. Teach an old person to use the internet and they won't bother you for weeks, months, maybe years.

Number 6 - Health nuts are going to feel stupid someday, lying in the hospital, dying of nothing.

Number 7 - All of us could take a lesson from the weather. It pays no attention to criticism.

Number 8 - In the 60's, people took drugs to make the world weird. Now the world is weird, and people take antidepressants to make it normal.

Number 9 - Life is like a jar of mirchi chutney. What you enjoy today might burn your backside tomorrow.

So Go easy on the Mirchi Folks

SENIORS ALERT NO 5

SENIORS ALERT No 5: Not surprising that 25% of my 400 WhatsApp Contacts are SENIORS. 10% are older than me and 90% marginally younger; Seniors nevertheless and every one is complaining that they have Problems Remembering. Call it Short Term Memory Loss or Dementia what ever, the question is what are you as an individual doing to improve your brain function ?. Do you do any thing positive or believe that your doctor will fix your memory loss with Pills ? I ask because as you know I suffered a Brain stem stroke and was not expected to Live leave alone walk, talk, eat and sing. I was a vegetable for a few weeks but I refused to vegetate long term. I am no DOCTOR with a MEDICAL DEGREE but understand how my brain functions from an Engineering point of view. One day soon I might share my secrets with you if you are interested in getting your act together and take charge of your own brain. Have a great Day

Seniors Alert No 6

It appears that all 100 seniors on my contact list receiving my Alerts are in denial that they are seniors. No one is interested in exercising the mind and writing about a tree, what ever the reason for excuse.

The question is do you have problem remembering things, be it short term memory or Long Term memory and do you have diabetes .

Basically Memory Loss and Diabetes are the causes of ageing and why some people the same age look and behave they are about 20 years older and vegetating.

Doctors will study your symptoms do a few blood tests and prescribe You Pills. Yes we live in a world of Pill Takers who believe do what you want, eat what you want and take pills to fix it.

Look around you and tell me if you know at least one person whose memory loss & diabetes has been cured by Tablets and injections..

Seniors Alert No 7

Two more amazing messages of Wisdom

Seniors Alert No 8:

The Sky Gets Dark, Slowly

Mao Dun literary prize winner Zhou Daxin’s latest novel to be published, “The Sky Gets Dark, Slowly”, is a sensitive exploration of old age and the complex, hidden emotional worlds of the elderly in a rapidly ageing population.

In it he writes, “…Many elderly speak as though they know everything, but of old age they are in fact as ignorant as children. Many elderly are in fact, completely unprepared for what they are to face when it comes to getting old and the road that lays ahead of them.

In the time between a person turning 60 years old, as they begin to age, right until all the lights go out and the sky gets dark, there are some situations to keep in mind, so that you will be prepared for what is to come, and you will not panic.

1. The people by your side will only continue to grow smaller in number. People in your parents’ and grandparents’ generation have largely all left, whilst many your peers will increasingly find it harder to look after themselves, and the younger generations will all be busy with their own lives. Even your wife or husband may depart earlier than you, or than you would expect, and what might then come are days of emptiness. You will have to learn how to live alone, and to enjoy and embrace solitude.

2. Society will care less and less for you. No matter how glorious your previous career was or how famous you were, ageing will always transform you into a regular old man and old lady. The spotlight no longer shines on you, and you have to learn to contend with standing quietly in one corner, to admire and appreciate the hubbub and views that come after you, and you must overcome the urge to be envious or grumble.

3. The road ahead will be rocky and full of precarity. Fractures, cardio-vascular blockages, brain atrophy, cancer… these are all possible guests that could pay you a visit any time, and you would not be able to turn them away. You will have to live with illness and ailments, to view them as friends, even; do not fantasise about stable, quiet days without any trouble in your body. Maintaining a positive mentality and get appropriate, adequate exercise is your duty, and you have to encourage yourself to keep at it consistently.

4. Prepare for bed-bound life, a return to the infant state. Our mothers brought us into this world on a bed, and after a journey of twists and turns and a life of struggle, we return to our starting point – the bed – and to the state of having to be looked after by others. The only difference being, where we once had our mothers to care for us, when we prepare to leave, we may not have our kin to look after us. Even if we have kin, their care may never come close to that of your mother’s; you will, more likely than not, be cared for by nursing staff who bear zero relation to you, wearing smiles on their faces all whilst carrying weariness and boredom in their hearts. Lay still and don’t be difficult; remember to be grateful.

5. There will be many swindlers and scammers along the way. Many of them know that the elderly have lots of savings, and will endlessly be thinking of ways to cheat them of their money: through scam phone calls, text messages, mail, food and product samples, get-rich-quick schemes, products for longevity or enlightenment… basically, all they want is to get all the money. Beware, and be careful, hold your money close to you. A fool and his money are soon parted, so spend your pennies wisely.

Before the sky gets dark, the last stretches of life’s journey will gradually get dimmer and dimmer; naturally, it will be harder to see the path ahead that you are treading towards, and it will be harder to keep going forward. As such, upon turning 60, it would do us all well to see life for what it is, to cherish what we have, to enjoy life whilst we can, and to not take on society’s troubles or your children’s and grandchildren’s affairs on for yourself. Stay humble, don’t act superior on account of your own age and talk down to others – this will hurt yourself as much as it will hurt others. As we get older, all the better should we be able to understand what respect is and what it counts for. In these later days of your lives, you have to understand what it means, to let go of your attachments, to mentally prepare yourself. The way of nature is the way of life; go with its flow, and live with equanimity.

***For all of us, a nice read, very beautiful, very true .... !

Hardly the day started and ... it is already six o'clock in the evening.

Barely arrived on Monday and it's already Friday.
... and the month is almost over.
... and the year is almost up.
... and already 50 or 60 or 70 years of our lives have passed.
... and we realize that we lost our parents, friends.
and we realize that it is too late to go back ...
So ... Let's try to take full advantage of the time we have left ...
Let's not stop looking for activities that we like ...
Let's put color in our greyness ...
Let's smile at the little things in life that put balm in our hearts.

And yet, we must continue to enjoy serenely the time that remains.

Let's try to eliminate the "after" ...
I do it after ...
I will say after ...
I will think about it after ...

We leave everything for 'later' as if "after" was ours.

Because what we do not understand is that:
after, the coffee cools ...
after, priorities change ...
after, the charm is broken ...
after, health passes ...
after, the children grow up ...
after, the parents get older ...
after, the promises are forgotten ...
after, the day becomes the night ...
after, life ends ...
And all that afters, we find it's often too late ....

So ... leave nothing for 'later' ...

Because in always waiting for later, we can lose the best moments,

the best experiences,
the best friends,
the best family ...
The day is today ... The moment is now ...

We are no longer at the age where we can afford to postpone until tomorrow what needs to be done right away.

So let's see if you'll have time to read this message and then share it.

Or maybe you'll leave it for ... "later" ...
And you will not share it "ever" ....

Even share with those who are not yet "seniors".

May you be well and happy
