413 - Sairam Iyer - Man with two Voices,

I received this forward from my niece & Smule singing Partner Roopa this morning.

I have heard Sriram Iyer, before yet this video today was too classy and I had to create a Blog Page for Sriram Iyer

In his Interview Sriram Iyer Says, "He won a Prize for singing in his 6th Std at school and with adolescence he lost his voice and that upset him a lot"

This Plucked a raw string in my Heart and took me back to 13th April 2000, when I was 54 years old. I woke up after a brain stem stroke and was losing my voice as I was speaking to 000 seeking emergency help and am ambulance. I lost the lot that Day including my precious VOICE

I could not speak, I could not swallow and was choking on my own Saliva. No one expected me to even live except myself.
This is not about my sob story but to tell you that Today I have recorded 12,100 songs on Smule, despite a partially paralysed voice box on the right side.

I could not have done it without my sisters and nephews and one friend Shyam criticising me endlessly and faulting my singing that made me even more determined to Sing.

Damn I was not going to let go my passion for Singing did not matter who criticised me. The more the Criticism the more my determination.

Then came so many angels and God sends especially Radha from Tanzania who constantly joined my substandard invites just to encourage me and Roopa from Kerala I connected with on Smule, only to find out later she was my bestie Dr Venugopal Nayanar's Niece. My intitial recordings had timing issues which was an Android issue but Roopa wanted to help me and asked me to tap my feet when I was singing.Believe it or not I have been tapping my feet every time I sing. Now I have another God send Najeela who inspires me to do all the things I wanted to do but never got around to it.

I seriously believe our bodies belong to the current world but our Souls are connected world wide to soo many people we don't know yet we bond with instantly. Internet to me is ESP & dejavu too. We connect with people who are strangers for a reason or a season as they bear messages for you both good and bad.

Recent another Smule buddy stopped singing as his wife objects to him singing. How sad. It is going tom affect him so badly.

I am, Glad I have a supportive wife who will let me do what I want as no one knows more about what I have endured in silence for 21 years

One Man, Two Voices – Sairam Iyer
News, Press Release

Imagine the magical voice of Lata Mangeshkar combined with the velvet tones of Mohammed Rafi – both coming from one singer. Dual vocalist,Sairam Iyer’s captivating solo performances see him effortlessly switch between male and female vocals with incredible skill.

One of the first dual vocalists from India to reach global popularity, Sairam has performed over 1,500 shows across the world, even performing alongside the guitar legend Carlos Santana and Alice Coltrane, the pianist wife of Sir John Coltrane.

Drawing inspiration from notable Indian cinema playback singers, Sairam began his vocal career recreating the top Bollywood female playback singers of the time. Sairam has since moved into the playback arena for Bollywood films himself and has the unique distinction of being the only male playback who can perform playback for a female actress as well.

Recognising this unusual talent, he was signed to record label BMG Crescendo in India and released a romantic music album aptly named ‘Aisa Bhi Kabhi Hota Hai’ containing two duets (you don’t need a singing partner when you are Sairam), two female solos and two male solos.

Having learned Hindustani classical vocal music from eminent stalwarts like the late Pandit Ramesh Nadkarni and Pandit Shri Dhruva Ghosh at the Sangeet Mahabharati Institution, Sairam acquired a diploma in Hindustani classical vocal music from the University of Mumbai, training under eminent music directors Shri Kamlakar Bhagwat and Shri Achyut Thakur.

Entering his teenage years, Sairam’s voice transitioned into maturity, effectively losing its childlike softness.

After several years of devoted retraining and fierce determination, Sairam rediscovered his earlier ability to sing in a female voice, paving the way for an incredible talent of performing male and female duets simultaneously.

His ability to reproduce on stage, the magical voices of his idols, is undeniably impressive. Sairam can perform classic duets unaccompanied. In amazing solo performances, he can comfortably match the scintillating heights of Asha Bhosle with the unique flamboyance of the late Kishore Kumar. His perfect execution of the subtle nuances of distinguished singers has earned him praise from maestros of the Indian cinema industry, such as Shahrukh Khan, Akshay Kumar, Juhi Chawla and Kajol; even impressing global Queen of Pop, Madonna.

For the first time, Sairam will be conducting a UK media tour, discussing his unique assimilation of male and female vocals.
