Year 2000 marked the start of a new millenium that the entire World was looking forward too and I was no different.
Sydney population were expecting a GRAND CELEBRATION, something like never before. There was a lot of excitement in the air.
Personally for me it was one of my best years Career wise as we had sooo many contracts related to the Sydney Olympics to be held in September 2000.
As a family we had so many options to celebrate the arrival of the Millenium. Unfoirtunately we ended up at the wrong Party which was boring as Bat shit and the proposed privater fireworks failed to light as they became damp.
We put this aside and headed for the Hindu temple 75 Kilometres away for the midnight Pooja but had an unfortunate bad experience on the road on that night.
The Noise of Fire works scare most dogs and a lovely German shepherd had escaped from some home whilst the owners were away partying else where. Poor dog panicked and ran across a six lane very busy road. He escaped three lanes and was on the median strip and darted straight into my car. This almost tore my heart out as I adore dogs. I did slam the breaks but hit the Poor dog, who just got up and started running wild. Instant reaction was to stop and assist the poor dog buty the blighter behind mee kept tooting continuously as he did not want to miss out on his Millenium Party.
Yes we attended the midnight prayers wished every one we knew and did not know a Very Happy New year. I think the other members of the Family were OK but to me it was a VERY BAD OMEN and I was pretty distraught..
My office reopened on 7th January and on my very first day at work, I received a call from my sister saying my Mother was extremely ill and it was a matter of days. So very next day I was on a Plane to Madras India. My mother passed away on 19th January. It was some consolation that it was OK as her misery had ended having survived a stroke but paralysed and disabled and being fed through a tube for over five years.
Got back to Sydney only to be told that my younger sister in Madras A General Surgeon had picked up some lethal infection had high fever and over night was totally paralysed below the neck. She survived but has been sufferning from Chronic fatigue since.
On 7th April 2000, I had a bad episode when undergoing a Stress test at a Cardiologists clinic was rushed to RPAH Emergency by my Cardiologist who informed the Triage Nurse "This Man is having a STROKE". Please get the Neuro Registrar to see him straight away.
She was not bothered and i sat tere at the reception for a long time. When you are scared and panicking every minute seems like an Hour. By the time they got me a bed and did all the preliminary blood tests I came good. I was ent home with the explanation that I might have had a reaction to the dye Sistamibi that was injected to study the blood flow to the heart or it could be a Bad Migraine. I did not think so. But who am I to question a Hospital.
On 13th April 2000 I got hit real bad in my sleep, rushed to the Emergency and this time I was extremely lucky to be cared fro by a very clever Neurology Registrar.
In December the very same year my other Younger sister an Anaethetist in Glasgow suffered a Severe Stroke caused by a rtuptured blood vessel and hence a hemorrhage
Three siblings being affected by Stroke all in the same year. We could not explain all thius but kept blaming ourselves that we had not done enough for our mother and hence the punishment But all of us survived despite the battering.
