123 - Comparing Dengue Virus with Corona Virus

Beautiful Spring Morning and as usual I was pottering around in the garden and there was this big blacl mossie the size of a fly that just refused to go away until I allowed him to take a bite and killed him with a smack. This small incident reminded me of Dengue Fever and prompted me to pen this article just now.

Dengue Fever
is a mosquito-borne viral disease occurring in tropical and subtropical areas.
Dengue fever is an illness that is similar to a serious case of the flu. It is caused by a virus carried by mosquitoes. Most people who have dengue fever recover in about a week. Sometimes, the infection is more serious and occasionally it is fatal. You can catch dengue fever if you are bitten by an infected mosquito.

Those who become infected with the virus a second time are at a significantly greater risk of developing severe disease.

Symptoms are high fever, rash and muscle and joint pain. In severe cases there is serious bleeding and shock, which can be life threatening. Treatment includes fluids and pain relievers. Severe cases require hospital care and even blood transfusion.

Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) is an infectious disease caused by a newly discovered coronavirus.
Most people who fall sick with COVID-19 will experience mild to moderate symptoms and recover without special treatment.

How Corona Spreads: The virus that causes COVID-19 is mainly transmitted through droplets generated when an infected person coughs, sneezes, or exhales. These droplets are too heavy to hang in the air, and quickly fall on floors or surfaces.

You can be infected by breathing in the virus if you are within close proximity of someone who has COVID-19, or by touching a contaminated surface and then your eyes, nose or mouth.

COVID-19 affects different people in different ways. Most infected people will develop mild to moderate illness and recover without hospitalization.

Most common symptoms:
fever, dry cough, tiredness

Less common symptoms:
aches and pains, sore throat, diarrhoea, conjunctivitis, headache, loss of taste or smell
a rash on skin, or discolouration of fingers or toes

I suffered from Dengue Fever in 2009 and would not wish it on my worst enemy. Picked it up at IIT Madras Campus on Pongal Day when I decided to visit many faculty members who were my friends, Prof.Ashok Jhunjhunwala, Prof.SanthaKumar and Prof Sriram. Being a hot day I wore a T Shirt with Jeans. I normally covered myself from head to foot in white clothes to keep the mossies away at night (Black colour attracts mossies, so best not to wear black pants as mossies will feast on your legs. They are always lurking around under sofas and dining tables etc waiting for dinner to be served on a plate. Believe me these tiny mosquitoes have more sucking power than leeches.

Guess what they do, they inject the dengue Virus that thins the blood instantly so that all mossies can feast on an infected person and draw blood with ease even in the person is dehydrated. Something tells me the mossies developed this to suck blood from thick skinned buffaoes :-).

It is like using a straw to drink coke as compared to using the same straw to drink a thick milkshake of a Coffee frappe. Thats is the reason why McDonalds supply bigger straws for thick shakes and frappes.

Mossies cannot change the straw size so they inject you with a virus that THINS the Blood which also prevents the blood from clotting at the bite sites.

I had my blood count done in Madras a few days prior to Pongal, mainly to check my blood INR and Platelet Count, which was higher than average at 550 (Normal range is 150 to 300) and I was being treated for Thrombocytosis with a medicine called HydroxyUrea which reduced the Platelet count. My platelet count was 890 when I was diagnosed with Thrombocytosis in 2000.

Thrombocytosis is a condition in which there are an excessive number of platelets in the blood. Platelets are blood cells in plasma that stop bleeding by sticking together to form a clot. Too many platelets can lead to certain other conditions, including stroke, heart attack, or a clot in the blood vessels

When I came home from IIT Campus I was fine. My good friend CK had come from Bangalore to visit me and my eldest nephew was also there. We had dinner and watched a Hindi movie and all of us retired as late as 1.30am

By 3.30am I was Kaput. Did not know anything about Dengue then in 2009, so assumed I had Malaria. At 6.00am I wanted to empty my bladder and was shocked to find I could not even sit up in bed. Every Joint in my body, head to foot hurt. My Surgeon sister Manju arrived soon and organised a pathology lab to come and take blood for tests. Results confirmed platelet count had dropped to 200 from 550 two days prior. She said "You have got Dengue fever and I wish I had warned you that the Dengue Mosquito bites at day time, and is striped like a zebra and is prevalent in Kottur Puram and IITM Campus area Taramani Velacheri etc."

Dengue viruses are spread to people through the bite of an infected Aedes species (Ae. aegypti or Ae. albopictus) mosquito. Dengue is common in more than 100 countries around the world.

You are not going to believe this. When I was visiting my classmate Prof.Santha Kumar, who was head of Aeronautics, sunlight was pouring into his lounge room from the window and I commented on this huge black mosquito with white..and that they were as big as flies. Damn I got well and truly bitten.

Now Corona Virus was initially treated, for lack of better understanding  as a Lung infection similar to pneumonia based on symptoms. Now medical profession agrees that lung issues are caused my micro blood clots in the lungs reducing the lung capacity progressively making it extremely difficult for the infected person to breathe resulting in much lowered blood oxygen which in turn triggers a violent reaction from the bodies auto-immune system to keep the person alive and this results in major metabolic changes to help out.

One of the most tragic deaths from Covid 19 was that of 41 year old Actor Nick Cordero

Nick Cordero
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Died July 5, 2020 (aged 41)

Nicholas Eduardo Alberto Cordero (September 17, 1978 – July 5, 2020)[1] was a Canadian Broadway actor. He was nominated for the Tony Award for Best Featured Actor in a Musical for his role as Cheech in the 2014 Broadway musical Bullets Over Broadway and was twice nominated for the Drama Desk Awards. His career also included television roles and film roles.

In March 2020, Cordero was diagnosed with COVID-19 and was admitted to hospital on March 30.[18] His wife reported that he was in critical condition, on a ventilator, and being treated with dialysis and extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO).[19]

On April 18, 2020, his right leg was amputated due to a blood clot as a result of complications from his illness.[20] By May 1, 2020, he had major lung damage including "holes in his lungs," and had a successful tracheostomy tube placed.
He had not regained consciousness after being taken off sedation.[21][22][23] By May 13, 2020, Cordero had regained consciousness.[18]

On July 5, 2020, after 95 days in the hospital, Cordero died surrounded by his family at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, at the age of 41. His body was cremated and his ashes were returned to his family.[24][1] Around that same time following his death, an effort was launched to rename the Longacre Theatre in Manhattan after Cordero.[25]

Now the Big Question from me:

Yes before you pounce on me and tell me "I know I am not a doctor, have no formal qualifications what so ever and all my medical  knowledge is based on my own health nightmares and my Google searches, which most doctors condemn. ( Believe it or not Good Honest Doctors who do not have answers to my questions have done google searches in my presence. I respect such doctors as they are honestly interested in patient care and not pretenders with huge ego's)

Now Dengue virus thins the blood overnight drastically bringing platelet count to two digit numbers so low that people could bleed to death in case of an injury or even internal bleeding that cannot be stopped.

Corona Virus does exactly the opposite makes the blood clot very fast like micro clots in the lungs clogging the airways

I am aware that NOW some hospitals are treating Covid patients with plasma, Heparin, Warfarin, Aspirin etc to thin the blood and prevent blood clots. So far I have not read any reports on what the Platelet count of Covid patients are. My Logical Mind says the Platelet count must go up drastically for it to clot so fast requiring amputation of leg etc.

I am sure most of you have heard about HydroChroquine

My question is why not Hydroxyurea that is used to bring the Platelet count down and prevent embolism or blood clots. Hydrauxy urea brought my platelet count down from 890 to 500 in quick time

Another equally good medication is
Anagrelide, a drug used for the treatment of essential thrombocytosis, or overproduction of blood platelets. It also has been used in the treatment of chronic myeloid leukemia. Anagrelide controlled release is in phase III clinical trials by Galena Biopharma for the treatment of essential thrombocytosis.

Silly me I had a long phone consult with my haematologist yesterday at 9.00am and I had not thought of this question.

So if you know some one who is a haematologist can you please ask if Covid Patients have increased Platelet Count and if yes why not treat with Hydoxyurea and warfarin ?

Platelets may be contributing to COVID-19
by Dr Liji Thomas

(Just found this article using Google search Unfortunately I cannot post a link as it is locked)

The question is why is this not widely reported anywhere in the world? So Many lives could be saved. Perhaps the entire world is scared of FDA

Just google Covid 19 platelet count and read if you have the time and inclination

Watch this video before you go:

This video came with the following Note:
"This recording was made on 29/2/1956. i.e. 64 years ago.  Listen specially to the last 40 seconds of recording for a great surprise or shock."

But doubting thomas me wonders if this video was created last week using old video footage with new documentary superimposed and heavily edited
