224 - Fake Second Suez Canal Story

Alternative to Suez Canal

NOW WE KNOW WHY THERE'S A BLOCKAGE IN THE SUEZ CANAL:

Israel announces today the start of work on the Ben Gurion Canal, the alternative canal to the Suez Canal.

After Sisi signed the agreement to transfer sovereignty over the islands of Tiran and Sanafir to Saudi Arabia, and after the Tiran Pass was transformed into an international corridor, “Israel” announced the start of work on the Ben Gurion Canal, alternative channel to Suez Canal, which it announced two years ago. It is likely that the establishment operations is likely to start within 2 months from now.

Two years ago, Hebrew reports said that the "Israeli" authorities were planning to establish a canal linking Red Sea and Mediterranean Sea.

"Israeli" engineers explained that by constructing a canal linking the Red Sea and the Mediterranean, it becomes a competition to the Suez Canal, as the distance between Eilat and the Mediterranean is not far, and is completely similar to the distance taken by the Suez Canal to connect the Red Sea with the Mediterranean Sea.

According to sources, if Israel breaks the canal from Eilat on the Red Sea to Mediterranean, the distance that ships travel in the Suez Canal to the Mediterranean will be reduced.

She added that "Israel" will establish a canal that is not at the base of the Suez Canal. In the Suez Canal, a day-day method is used in which ships pass from one direction to another, and on the second day, the opposite direction is used for ships going in that direction.

Israel is likely to dig two independent channels, one from the Red Sea to the Mediterranean, and the second from the Mediterranean to the Red Sea. Thus, no ship will be delayed while ships spend two weeks in the Suez Canal to cross the Suez Canal. Likewise, the nature of the land is rocky and bears any pressure without any effect unlike the Suez Canal, where the nature of the land is sandy and needs constant follow-up.

And "Israel" intends to establish small cities, hotels, restaurants and nightclubs on the canal that will split it, and the channel will call it "Ben Gurion".

Egypt vehemently objected to this matter, threatening to cut off the relationship with "Israel". Israel did not bother, considering that diplomatic relations with Egypt are almost cut off.  Likewise, "Israel" did not care about the military threat.

The canal will be 50 meters in depth and no less than 200 meters in width for each canal, which is more than the Suez Canal 10 meters in depth. A ship with a length of 300 meters and a width of 110 meters, which is the largest size of ships in the world, will be able to pass through the canal that Israel will build.

As for the construction period, it will be 5 years, and 300,000 engineers and technicians will work in the project in all fields. They come from Korea, Asian countries, and Arab countries such as Egypt and Jordan to work in this channel, leaving more than 30,000 of them to operate the channel, and the channel will cost “Israel”  about USD16 billion can be increased according to the conditions of the project, and "Israel" believes that its income will be USD 6billion a year or more.  This is in addition to the fact that "Israel" will have the largest artery that connects Mediterranean with the Red Sea.

Israel will establish cities along the canal that resemble the old cities and old houses at a huge distance around the canal, and it is among the terms of the deal of the century, because Eilat towards the Mediterranean is semi-desert.  If Israel implements this project, Egypt's income will drop from USD10 billion to USD4 billion dollars, as Israel will receive USD billion and more. Consequently, Israel decided to abandon Egypt even if Egypt canceled Camp David, because Israel is confident that if  Egypt decided to cancel Camp David, and it would not be able to regain Sinai.  Because the "Israeli" military force is capable of striking the Egyptian army if it crosses the Suez Canal.

Israel will also seek to persuade Jordan to channel water from this canal to the Dead Sea, whose water is decreasing annually. If Jordan agrees, huge pipes will flow from the Ben Gurion Canal to the Dead Sea, in exchange for providing Jordan with facilities to establish Jordanian hotels and resorts on the Dead Sea,  Jordan participates in joint "Israeli" - Jordanian tourism in the Dead Sea region, and Jordan assists in sending tourists to the Petra area. Because the Jordanian economy is affected by a negative decline, and it is in dire need of financial support.

As for the security of the canal, "Israel" will place spy devices in the depth of the canal, and will place monitoring devices in the heart of the canal. The largest barrier that detects weapons and laser-ray images will also be erected for every ship that cuts the canal back or forth.

Israel will agree with 3 American banks to lend it to USD billion at 1 percent interest, and will repay it over 30 years.  Thus, "Israel" will have built the canal from American loans with little interest, while it benefits from USD6 billion and more per year.

Fake News :

Turkish media appear to have fallen for an April Fools’ prank by British newspaper The Guardian.

The Guardian published a spoof story claiming a second Suez Canal was in the works.

Outlets such as BBC Turkey reported – and then deleted – the story.

An April Fools’ news article claiming that the United Nations is looking into building a second Suez Canal appears to have been taken seriously by major Turkish media outlets.

On April 1, The Guardian published

“‘Suez 2’? Ever Given grounding prompts plan for canal along Egypt-Israel border,” an article that rapidly gained attention given the current international interest in the canal.

The article said that the UN was studying the feasibility of a second channel along the Egypt-Israel border.

Turkish outlets appear to have taken it at face value, including BBC News Türkçe, which reported the story.

“The eyes and ears of the world were there!

UN stepped in, rolled up sleeves for 2nd Suez Canal,” read the headline used online by national paper Hürriyet.

T24, an online Turkish news outlet, also published the story. The pages have now been deleted, but can be found via Google’s cache.

But the Guardian article was a spoof. Written by “Flora Lopi,” the article cited “sources” such as “Iver Shovel,” “international tunnelling company OFP Lariol,” and “Mo Sez, a regional expert in water division management.”

The Guardian went all in and created a Twitter account for “Flora Lopi,” who played along with the joke on social media:

The apparent mistake was first reported by online news portal Gazete Duvar.

The Middle East Eye Turkey correspondent Ragıp Soylu tweeted images of print front pages that Insider has not been able to independently confirm:

The fake story created a lot of excitement when it was first published, and “Suez 2” briefly trended on Twitter in the UK. It’s not a surprise – the Ever Given has dominated the news cycle ever since it was grounded in the crucial waterway.

The 220,000-ton container ship completely blocked one of the world’s most important trading routes, choking the supply chain – and sparking endless memes. The ship was eventually freed on Monday, after six days, and the accumulated backlog of vessels is slowly passing through the channel.

The Guardian updated its story, marking it “April Fools’,” as of noon on April 1, as is traditional with spoof stories.

A spokesperson for the BBC told Insider: “BBC Türkçe is committed to accurate and impartial journalism. Once we verified that the Suez article was a hoax it was immediately taken down. We apologise to our audiences for this error.”

T24 and Hürriyet did not immediately respond to Insider’s request for comment.

Editor’s note: An earlier version of this story said incorrectly that Ragıp Soylu, not Gazete Duvar, was the first to spot the Turkish media’s error. This has been corrected.
